Metal detecting at local park. First time ever to detect we found a lot of old pop tabs. Found some coins dimes nickels and pennies. Found what appears to be American Indian or Mexican silver children's ring. Key 22 casing and costume ear ring. Not bad for first day testing out the bounty hunter tracker iv. Next stop going to three old home steady in western Oklahoma. Two of them are completely gone except the cellar one house still standing. Can't wait after today. Maybe we can find some old coins.

Awesome finds! Welcome to the hobby, Congrats and HH!

Good job thats alot more than I found my first time out.

Thanks. Can't wait to get to the old home steads. Have the sensitivity set to about 3 o'clock and discrimination set at noon. Is there any thing I can do to improve my hunting and not get so many tabs set to time.

How does silver corrode the ring has a few black spots on it. The ring was about five inches down in the ground. I think it must have been there for awhile but not for sure.

Did great for first time out, as for advise listen and pay attention to your machine and dig everything this way you will get to learn what your metal detector is saying to you second get yourself a pro pointer or one like this ,this will definitely save you time per dig there little bit expensive but worth every penny! 3rd. Research research research there is such reward in doing so I have only been doing thus hobby for 3 years and found some really cool items 10% of it was luck but 90% persistence .

You found a silver ring on your first day!!! Congrats in the finds!! :-)

Thanks for the advise. I will find out for sure tomorrow on silver or not I will let you know.

Nice finds for the first time!!! When you get to the homestead sites be sure to check the corners both inside and out side of the wall. If you find any clay jars with metal things in them try not to break the jars when you open them.

Nice variety of finds & digging cool ring first time out is super! :icon_thumright: Silver often oxidizes to black, which is easy to remove with baking soda & q-tips or soft brush.

My son & I shared for 2 years the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV that I still use, though he upgraded to Teknetics a year ago for greater depth & refinement possibilities.
With our Bounty Hunter, we've dug many silver coins back to 1848! With Bounty Hunter, we've dug 4 gold rings! Old silver rosary! You can find ANYTHING with Bounty Hunter, except deep under water, lol. Okay to get coil wet but NOT okay to get electronics box wet, though mine even recovered from that error after I took electronics box apart and dried it out, whew. When I don't want to waste time digging pull tabs, tiny junk metal or bottle tops, I push the little red lever all the way to the right, which is the easiest way to detect silver jewelry and coins, including silver coins. When I have lots of time, I keep red lever in center and although that results in digging every stinking piece of crud metal, it's also how I dug my 2 gold rings. If you can afford a really good pinpointer like the brands many on this site recommend, go for it! I'm on very limited budget, so for past 3 years have used Harbor Freight's $20 pinpointer -- easy to use & a great time-saver, though you'll probably need to replace the switch after a few weeks as we and many other customers have had to do (a simple do-it-yourself act with cheap part from any electric-supply shop). BTW, we detect with the discrimination/notch knob turned all the way to the left (turned off). On most dirt, we keep the sensitivity knob turned all the way to the right on High, though on highly-mineralized dirt and most sand we instead dial it gradually back to whatever point it stops chattering. HAVE FUN & KEEP US POSTED ON YOUR HOMESTEAD FINDS! Andi

If you stop digging pop tabs, odds are you will miss some gold rings.
