My 16 year old wanted to go out with me. We went to a ghost town nearby. It's been hit so hard I didn't think we would find anything. He was starting to throw his junk finds, I said just put in my junk pocket so we don't have to redig it. When we got home he washed a few things off and left them at the sink. I came by and saw the face and stem, he thought it was a lead bullet. The funny thing is I can't find out where the bowl was. I don't think it's a pipe. Maybe it was like a tassel at the end of something. Let me know what you think. Happy hunting!! Found in a Colorado ghost town. Lots of of railroads around here. I hope you all have more time to get out!!! Stay safe!!! IMG_20200325_064541440~2.webpIMG_20200325_064348044~2.webpIMG_20200325_064348044.webpIMG_20200325_064316441~2.webp

Interesting!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks RJ. The interesting ones are my favorite. Always learning!

May be a Chinese miner's opium pipe. A very cool relic, congrats. Sub 8-)

It might be something other than a pipe.

Is it made this way or is the stem folded over? Looks like a pipe tobacco tamper to me

Dumb Question
Does the door Pull Down ?
or Open ? slide out ?

How deep does the Hole in the Stem Go ?
is there Light at the End of the Tunnel ?

Can it be stood up, leaned against something, or laid on the edge of a table & a Punk/incense Be put in the Stem ?

It's hard to tell if it was made this way but I'm almost sure it was folded because of he damage. Im not sure it would fit most bowls but maybe. Thanks for the post!

I think it is pewter. Here are some more pictures. The hole does go through but seems smaller than used for tobacco. I don't see any flat spots where it would rest, or any place for a bowl. The top bottom and sides are sealed. It should date from 1890-1910. Thanks for the posts.IMG_20200325_091018843~2.webpIMG_20200325_090828814.webpIMG_20200325_090754322.webp

You might be right, and the tamper would have been on the small side. ( I didn't look at it that way)

Thanks Jeff!! I am curious about it. I like these types of finds!

I am going to throw my hat in the ring and say this is part of an opium pipe. a long reed attached to the spout and the bowl is missing. The head is indicative of all the pictures of Chinese opium addicts I have seen smoking while laying down with their head on a block. The pipe base never left the table next to the smoker and they leaned over when they took a hit so they did not drop the pipe and burn the joint down. Probably was attached to a ashtray like base. Go back and find the rest of it.

Interesting find, congrats! :occasion14:

Thanks Qball. I have found quite a few opium related items up here. Check out this stem! Thanks for the post the information and the post!

I dont think it was made that way. It looks as if the stem is folded over the head piece, or vice versa.

Hi Trezurehunter, it is so tempting to unfold this but I worry it would destroy it. But it would be satisfying to see if it had a hole for a bowl. It will look good in a case I will make for my son someday. We found a good token together when he was about 3!
