Enjoyed the picture Fossi < we had one this steel bridges near my home > new roads by passed the old one > new bridges without any character at all !

To bad that bridge has old time character 8) AA

That is a shame. A new bridge would not look good in that area. The whole area looks like it has character.

That is a neat bridge thanks for posting.

What a shame, that's Americana. It reminds me of an identical bridge in Ohio. One day a bunch of friends and I were out riding Harleys in the country and stopped at this bridge. One guy, a steel worker bet me and I lost. He climber to the top and did a hand stand over the river. Crazy Bunch!

Fossis, that's a great photo. We have bridges like that in Idaho, and will for some time.Seems that money to replace them is scarce.A good thing in a nostalgic way! I gotta get some pics of ours to post....some of them make me nervous to cross...one lane wide!

It looks like it would cost more to tear that one down than to re-route the road a little and just build a new one..Some politicians just don't think. Nice pics btw...

nice shot and great you got one before they tore it down! :(

Thanks everyone, My Mom & dad posed on one
like this in 1938, on their wedding day.
It is on a side road, so it will probably survive.
And speaking of climbing the bridges & doing crazy
stunts, there has been plenty of that here also.
HH, everyone,

Fossis..............

We had one like that about a mile from our house. One night a drunk was driving a compact car on it, swerved a little too far one direction and hit it. The WHOLE bridge went down. The guy in the car was apparently uninjured and left the scene. Funny thing, the bridge had passed the county inspection just a few months earlier. Any other bridge would have required strategically placed explosives to bring it down. Go figure.

Funny, this old bridge had it's share of dings
from drunk drivers also.

Fossis.

From one of your comments it sounds like this bridge just may be closed to traffic. It appears it's out in the country so a "walking" bridge is probably out of the question but it would sure be great if it could be saved.

This is just a one lane, & they will replace it with a
concrete, two lane if it is like all the others they did.
In one local town they did keep one for a walking bridge

Maybe you could speak to the local historical people. Sometimes these old bridges have a unique design or construction method that classifies them as "historical". That is, if you're interested in seeing it stay. ;)
