Greetings from NC!
I found this a week ago and have been meaning to post it but never got around to it. But I just had to find time to share this awesome find! As many of you may know, based from my comments on certain finds, I love anything Railroad related, especially Southern Ry. Ever since I started metal detecting, it has been my dream to find something from the Southern Ry. (that wasn't in an antique shop or auction
) Well last week, I got my wish!
I was walking my dog near the spot where I found my bottle dump a few years ago. It had just stopped raining and I was, as always, looking on the ground for anything the rain might have uncovered. No luck on the side of the road. So I went a little ways back into the woods. I searched for about 10 minutes with no luck. But just as I turned to go home, I saw something sticking partially out of the wet ground. It was round and long. At first I thought it was some kind of wierd bottle. But it wasn't made of glass. It looked like it was made out of rubber. I went and picked it up. Turned out it was an old rubber flashlight. The bottom was gone as well as the glass and bulb, and the batteries were very corrded. The switch was in the "on" position. But most of it was there. I began to clean it off to look for any markings... and could not believe what it said. Under the switch in white letters said "Switch Guard" and below that "Property of the Southern Railway Co."
WOW!!!!! Didn't expect that! I ran home, carefully cleaned it, and put it on display with my other Southern items. It is deffinently my best and favorite find that I found without a metal detector. You just never know! May God Bless You All!
Blessings,
