Pretty unique but not real uncommon for them to use the cortex at the end of the base. It was cracked out of a round solid sphere that was covered in that end material.The chert was inside it. Neat one for your collection. My bet it was a small spall or nodule and once cracked open was enough to produce maybe one or two good tools by incorporating the cortex as the base.
