Hey Jim, thanks for the effort. Don't you think the condition is to good for it to be an original?

Cripes... LMAO... If I reply to that you might think I know what I'm talking about!

I think it is a sharp un-worn looking coin, except for the tree which looks pretty beat up. ???????

Holy Cow, Montana Jim, your posts are getting funnier every day. LOL Prior to this post of yours, I was lovingly referring to you as PBK, Jr. But now I have to reevaluate that moniker and come up with a new one. Something more in keeping with your wishy-washy answers - maybe John Kerry, Jr. ? LOL

I wouldn't think condition would necessarily rule it out. The lack of detail on the tree could be a weak strike. I would imagine a coin of this rarity would've been copied though. How deep was it? Can you remember what else you found at the site?

Oh my Gawd... don't insult PBK like that!

While flattering to be sure, I see him cringing in his library. :D At least PBK only (or mostly) replies to what he knows, I'm willing to put my two-cent's in when I DO NOT know! :P

Me too, I find plenty of 17th century brass farthings which were the models for these types of issue. Even my best one has some level of green discolouring which you would expect for a coin which has been buried for over 200 years. To me the lettering is trying to be naive but missing the mark. I think it to be a copy.

See mine of a similar date.

Just to answer all your questions, I really don't remember the depth or what else I found that day but I think PBK just solved the mystery.
Thanks all.
