SOV GT sweep speed?

The slower you sweep it the deeper it goes.

Short, slow, side to side Strokes work also.

I find myself swinging faster at times,
but everytime I realize I'm doing it I slow down.

With my classic I take about 2 seconds from one side to the other, is that too fast for a sov? Or better yet to cut the chase, what would a normal sov speed be from side to side? :)

They say if you think your going slow enough you need to go slower.

2 seconds ?
I guess it would depend on how Broad your sweeps are.
I honestly never timed myself , but that seems like a
nice slow speed.

I'm still getting used to swinging the Sovereign as it's the slowest swing detector i've used.
It's hard to describe how fast to swing it and is best to find out for yourself. Everyone says GO SLOW so i go slow. Think of the Slowski tv commercials with the Turtles when swinging ;D

Try going to an area where there are lots of close targets and practice swinging over them with 0 discrimination ,no notch and listen how fast or slow the Sovereign will respond to a target and reset to cleanly respond on another target,, i think you'll know when your swinging too fast.
After you find your best swing rate with multiple targets find a single target preferably one that has a deeper soft tone not a blaring loud surface hit with no other responses near it and notice how the Sovereign reponds to that target swinging both fast and slow. Thats what i've been doing and seems to working. HH Bill

Jeff says it best. Just don't hurry it and you will do lots better. Analazing those frequencies takes time and shouldn't be rushed till they get newer chips.

I had a XS2A pro for a while and a fellow detectorist told me to swing at a speed to get a smooth continuous tone. Faster in clear ground, slower in trashy areas. If it nulls out, or signals, slow down, even go backwards to catch a target or discrimination smear(detector nulls, and forward motion allows you to pass over targets before detector recovers.) This will all be determined by your discrimination and notch levels. I know it's hard to do, but don't get in a hurry.

I was going to add that, Glad to see you caught it.

Yes if you swing too fast over a good target it can null
& if you swing too fast over a bad target, it can give a
good signal. it is best to double check all signals
at several angles.
it can be a pain to do,
but the extra depth & even accuracy of ID at great depth,
can be amazing.

I normally search with sensitivity on Auto.
all the way counter clockwise & Clicked on.

I searched a hunted out site (I hunted it out)
& after, turned sens to Manual, but all the way up.
& got a 1917 Standing Quarter at an easy 12 inches,
that I missed. the detector was very erratic, signals
all over. but by listening closely, I was able to
deduce that was the signal to dig.

I read a book that said three seconds per sweep. I've noticed some times when I had to speed up to get a better signal (Sovereign XS-2 Pro) but I was going real slow. In trashy areas you sometimes have to get directly over a suspected target and cut your sweep down to about one inch each direction. This is with the DD coils. Never used a mono.

One important thing to remember is a gold target comes in solid, it doesn't usually ramp-up, and the signal in all-metal mode is small and sharp and directly over the spot. If you get a delay signal that does not center, or it changes the spot between disc and all-metal it's usually junk.

Thank you for the Info, I was questioning my decision to get the
sovereign Gt over the Explorer SE, But it stands to reason that the slower you swing your detector and maybe the smoother motions swinging it side to side, will help.
