I had a XS2A pro for a while and a fellow detectorist told me to swing at a speed to get a smooth continuous tone. Faster in clear ground, slower in trashy areas. If it nulls out, or signals, slow down, even go backwards to catch a target or discrimination smear(detector nulls, and forward motion allows you to pass over targets before detector recovers.) This will all be determined by your discrimination and notch levels. I know it's hard to do, but don't get in a hurry.

I was going to add that, Glad to see you caught it.
Yes if you swing too fast over a good target it can null
& if you swing too fast over a bad target, it can give a
good signal. it is best to double check all signals
at several angles.
it can be a pain to do,
but the extra depth & even accuracy of ID at great depth,
can be amazing.
I normally search with sensitivity on Auto.
all the way counter clockwise & Clicked on.
I searched a hunted out site (I hunted it out)
& after, turned sens to Manual, but all the way up.
& got a 1917 Standing Quarter at an easy 12 inches,
that I missed. the detector was very erratic, signals
all over. but by listening closely, I was able to
deduce that was the signal to dig.
