The Sov will work fine on the beaches. Just overlap your sweeps and make your your not disc. out any pull tabs so you can get the rings.

I am heading to John Brooks beach in Ft. Pierce tomorrow...was gonna try the all metal mode and keep the sensitivity a bit below 12 o clock and threshold just a bit lower then usual....

The ocean beaches here in Oregon are extremely high in iron (magnetite and hematite). I get better depth with my Sov Elite Pro in (low) discrimination than in all-metal.

The same thing is true with my CZ-70. The Minelab runs a bit smoother than the CZ because I have to readjust the CZ now and then for ground balance. The Sov does this automatically. Both detectors get up to 10" in disc and almost 9" in all-metal. The CZ pinpoints a lot better but who cares? Most beaches are pretty wide-open with less junk to deal with anyway.

One thing to remember, in high iron soil; if you run with pulltab rejection on you will likely pass over good targets with a Sov. It's recover time is too slow and it will even pass over coins if you swing it too fast. Count on it.

I use my Sovereign GT on the beaches here a lot, but I rarely use the all metal mode. Just like Sandman, I really don't care for digging up bobby pins at 18 inches.

Using the WOT with it I can cover a lot more territory and digging the bobby pins just slows me down. Many times I will get in front of a nice hotel and pattern sweep it, dragging my scoop behind me to mark where I have been. When I get done it almost looks like the tracks of a vaccum cleaner.

Maybe I should change the "nick name" of my Sov to "Hoover", as in vaccum. ;D
