Detector(s) used
Garrett AT Pro, Minelab Excalibur II, Whites BeachHunter 300
I've got some PayPal money I need to spend before the end of the year, and I'm thinking about getting another detector.

I do all my detecting on wet sandy beaches here in Florida, but don't do much water detecting.

I already have a minelab excalibur II, which I plan to keep. And I've been doing well with it.

But I've been thinking of getting another minelab detector for a backup and for days I want to use something other than the excal. Maybe an Sovereign GT, or Explorer or Quattro.

If you were looking for a great wet sand beach detector, one that had discrimination (I don't want to dig for bobby pins), what would you get?

I'll be using it on Florida east and west coast beaches.

Hi Bill,

Well, I am no expert on these matters but if you have enough money in PayPal you might consider the Minelab E-TRAC. I have no experience with this machine but I do own an Explorer. It has been a great machine. Just read the field test on the E-TRAC in W&ET and it sound like something I want. Told my wife yesterday that I put it on my Xmas list for 2015 . it seems to have many new and improved features over the Explorer. Check it out. Maybe PayPal and Santa can work it out in a bipartisan way.

Happy Shopping and have a good Thanksgiving,

Jim

Bill, the finds recently dropped off a lot where I detect.

I found out why.

Met a fellow with an Explorer who has also been working my regular stops.

He doesn't leave much of anything! ;D

iv used about every detector made and iv not found anything better on salt sand than the Excal and Sovereign GT.

I can honestly say that you only have one really good choice and that is the Sov GT. You are used to the sounds the Excal makes so the GT is really a great choice. You will have the option of buying a WOT coil for the extra depth and coverage. Use of better earphones like Black Widow or Grey Ghost. Iron mask like the Excal with a switch for turning it on or off. It comes ready to carry in the neck mount bag too that is included.

Many of the hunters here swear by them not at it. Hunters like Max, Treasure Hunter, Bootybay, and me of course. Sorry if I left anyone out.

What about the Sovereign Elite? Is it better, worse, or the same as the GT?

Thanks,

Bill

Well all i can say is GT.(S-12) But if you can find a good one the CZ-70 pro would be the second on my list...... :Cotton

about the same.the GT is the newest Sovereign ,it came out after the Elite.it has a few more options.they claim its a little better.iv owned all the Sovereign's and all are good.but to be sure to be able to get parts id stay with the GT or Elite .eather one is a great beach machine! i like my GT and the Sun Ray S12" coil, this coil is lighter than the stock 10" coil and gets good depth and coverage.
