When's Keith going to add to the videos? Tell him to hit-up Santa for a gopro.
On video it sounded like a slow day but all good finds. There's got to be some buttons. Don't give up there yet.

It was slow but the house site needs to be bush hogged .

wow, that is a very nice looking coin.

Nice finds, as usual. Half a cob is better than no cob which is what I got right now.

I'm pretty sure he meant that in the way of the movie, "Breaking Bad" when he said that his Deus "broke bad today".

Thats not a cob. Its a pistareen. Itdates to the early 1700s when cobs were still being produced though.

Ive found a few with the hole in them and thats the first cut silver ive found.

Common to find the later reales minted in the New world holed. The pistareens were earlier and minted in spain and much harder to find. Most pistareens cut or complete were out of circulation by the revolution

Great finds Calabash!

Question - I can understand the cutting of the coins, but curious, why the hole thru the coin? Did they keep their money on a piece of string/chain or something?

Probably sewn into their clothing

In those early days they carried their coins in pouches hung on a belt outside their clothe and on lanyards (holed)around their necks.
Pockets as we know them today weren't designed into clothing until the early 1800's.
Some did also sew them into the linings of their clothe.

A cool land owner let us hunt so this piece of silver is going to him he one of those land owners that will value it.
