Steve,It rang up in the zinc range,it looks rather brittle too.

Looks to be counterfeit in the pics. Never seen a silver coin break like that. That's not cut, it's a piece that broke off the coin, probably from a plow strike or just disintegration-- the rest should be around the area. The side pic doesn't look like silver to me either. A nice find either way!

Eric,2300 acres of fields from 1654,plow strike,I'd say YES,I did scan the area well,guess I'll have to wait till the next plow,maybe be brought closer to the surface with a new load of goodies too!

I think the counterfeits are more interesting than the real (no pun intended ) thing--I hope you can get in there and retrieve the rest of it. Great find!
