There have always been rumours of the Spanish Explorers heading up the Fraser River and into British Columbia, and some believe they did some mining of their own and left behind some gold and ore in caches which they marked. Having done lots of exploring in the local mountains, looking for gold and lost mines, I came across the following in a creek: it looks like a carving of a turtle's head, as well as some marks on the rock that look like a cross. Do you think these are just random marks on the rock, or are they pointing to something greater, or am I just seeing things? Let me know what you think?

I know 200 plus years or maybe 300.plus have passed but I don't think this vertical cross in the middle ( vertical as measured against the ground too ) was carved by people.
The depth of the lines is not too shallow. So it must have taken quite some effort and maybe 1.5 to 2 hours time, in case they are real... Despite that, I see that right sideways of every line, there is quite a naturally looking INTACT curve back inward into the rock and outward that TO ME doesn't look as if a blade was dragged many times back and forth.

Also, To me the face of the rock towards where the lines are looks a little protruded toward the observer.
Which well adds to the curve immediately out of the lines.

Try to step as close as possible next to the rock and press your face cheeks/ eye to the rock and look inward toward the middle lower surface area looking over the protruding surface. Maybe them it will appear as more of a natural phenomenon to you
Not very easy to judge by the picture from my screen
