It's holy relic!

probably worn as jewelery long ago. i remember my mom wearing a bracelet with holed coins on it in the 60's. pretty sure they were fake though. nice find regardless.

That is a seated with character
If dug two

As mentioned alot of coins were holed back in the day....I have found several old tokens and coins that have been holed, some were done back in the 1800's,depending on where it was found you might be able to date when it was done...

Yes, I found it at an old home site that I located on Google Earth. It was a pretty eclectic afternoon of searching; No rhyme or reason to anything. In fact, all the coins I found after the dime were clad pennies. I am still trying to figure out how to get small enough pictures downloaded; this one was barely under the limit. The new camera we bought is an SLR with 18 megapixels.

Remember back in the day, all folks had was on them. Many wore their change, etc. on a string, rope, chain, to keep as close to them as possable. Great find, and good dig! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumleft:

I can't believe no one got it. In older days pants had no pockets and poorer gentleman and travelers could not afford coin bags or purses. They would put a hole in the coins and sew it into there jackets, pull them off as needed. If the hole had been for jewelry the hole would be top center to show the coin hanging in an upright position. I have seen a lot of 1800,s and older silver coins with holes. One reale had 4 holes, two on each side, was probably a bracelet at one time.

PS sorry ewcoinhunter I did not read your post.

Hey Ed, we're not as dumb as we look - we really do know about holed coins here in IL! ;D

I wasn't sure if you dug it or found it lying around the house. Excellent find, James!!!   :icon_king:

As you can probably tell, I'm still looking for my first seated. Nice job!!!

Personally, I prefer holed coins to non holed. Sets them apart and makes them unique.

Congrats on the Centennial Seated! I feel the hole adds more to the history..

WHOA nice Seated!!! I'd put that baby on a necklace pronto ;-) Congrats! :headbang:

Always love of good seated. Congrats!
