I think the Eagle Spectrum came out in 91, the Spectrum XLT in 94 and the XLT E series came out in 2000.
 

The biggest difference in the Eagle Spectrum and the XLT is that the XLT uses AA batteries instead of C batteries and it reduces the weight. The XLT also has a couple of more user slots for programs and adjustable viewing angle. I think performance wise they should be the same. I have an Eagle Spectrum and it's a good detector but requires a nice quick swing speed for maximum depth. The XLT will be the same.
 

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about buying one,trying to decide which one
