Found in wooded area of Southern VA.

When dug a number seemed visible (like old 3 or 5?). Will look for that number and post photo.

What is it?

In first photo (right) you'll notice that it's squared. Can't find the number now (was close to square end) as the iron rust now is flaking.

looks like a concrete form stake.

holes for nails up the shaft?

No holes (solid piece). The squared portion about 2 1/4 inch. Diameter a little over 1 inch.

Just spoke with a friend who is into old cars.

It's a drive shaft for an old Ford model T.

It's part# 1034 and would fit inside as indicated (red arrow in picture).
