Finished the site on a high note. It took us 5 hours to grid the last of the scatter, on a nice rain free day.:unhappysmiley:
The size & shape of the site was a little bigger than our scouting mission had indicated, & it was in this small linked annex that the rare silver fell to Cru'dad. All the 3 silvers from this site have been on the edge of the bronze scatter.
Getting 3 Roman Silver in Dec is our best Dec Record ever, so a strong finish to the year. (Although I may do a few solo hunts yet)

15 Scrappies
Tudor Book Clasp
1871 Penny - Scarce date & in better condition than my brought one in my collection.8-)
Broken 17th C Spur Buckle
Roman Silver Siliqua (sadly clipped & broken)
RARE - Silver Roman Denarius of Pertinax AD 193 - This is an Emperor we need & he was only on the throne for 3 months.:headbang:

As usualy, great finds Crusader! What a talent for finding (bablical) talens you have. Well, I guess not really talents, but close enough.

The Pertinax looks like a nice condition Denarius. Nice to get a rare one looking good! Congrats to Crudad!

So nice to find a silver Roman, especially such a rare one
as Pertinax.

Yeap, very happy, as in the field I guessed Ant Pius, without much thought. Wasn't until we got it home & paid attention that we got the true impact!

Love the Pertinax ! More to come when the field is in better condition. :notworthy:

Indeed. It's all now mapped by Cru'Dad. Kind of triangle shaped, especially when you add the Split-Site East. I wonder if the wider end of the scatter was housing along a trackway heading towards the known Road in the West??

It's pretty amazing that the guy was on the throne for three months and still had some coins made! Congrats on something that sounds ultra rare.

Congrats on another first CRU! I have to imagine you've written the book on UK bucket listers haha. Can't be too many things left on that list of yours.

Yes, to think the moneyers would have had to get his image & cut the new dies & then start the minting process, amazing really!

I have had many of what I thought impossible bucket listers from the early days, but then the list just gets updates with even rarer finds. My current top 5 have not moved in awhile. But I still get items most weeks that are 'firsts' & that's all part of the fun of it for me.

Great finds, as always Crusader! Bonus points for Cru'dad for that super rare Roman silver. Congratulations!

Great job, congrats! :occasion14:

Finding any Roman silver makes for a good hunt my friend!
I'm sure you and your Dad just laugh when you pull yet another penny from the dirt, but here in Canada any coin with Victoria on it is a nice find.

I love this little buckle too, they sure don't make them of this quality anymore. :sadsmiley:

With some pennies yes, but this one as soon as I dug it I saw the date 1871 & knew it was a rare one. When I checked my collection of brought examples this one is about 2 grades better, so it made the collection with the un-dug example. This RARELY happens.
