For people who are interested in prehistoric artifacts, and bonafide flintknapping tools, and flintknapping technologies, I can assure you that there is equally great interest among archaeologists.

I was recently invited to speak at the SAA annual conference. I spoke on the commonality between flakers found at Colha, and flakers that were used in many portions of North America, since the advent of the archaic era.

Here is a photo from the conference showing the flakers.

Also, I am including a photo of a biface experimentally made with one such flaker.

It would appear that our understanding of New World flintknapping technologies is in its dawning infancy.

Here is an experimental biface which illustrates how such tools may have been used.

Here is a very famous anthropologist, Dr. John Clark, using a Karok flintknapping method to manufacture a large biface

In three months of practice he is already better with the wooden punch process, than with the wooden billet process that he used for over a year.

This comes from a study of large effigies.
