spring detector check

I got out the detector and put in new batteries. When I turned it on it only displayed 9.8V from the 12v battery pack. I removed and checked each cell. They were each 1.6v or better. The problem was in the battery box to detector contacts. A quick rubdown with an alcohol soaked cotton ball cleared the problem. Back up to 12.8V. I only use coppertops, but am looking into Li rechargeables. Frank
