Stab in the dark...???1888/7 IHC???

Just won this Indian Head Cent. Many bids on it. The pictures are attached is one taken with the flash one taken without. Is it the Holy Grail? I figure this damn variety is so hard to identify, who knows? Thanks for looking, just living the dream.

I can't say much about the full coin pic as a better close-up is needed! However, from viewing specific marks, scratches, dents and dirt from the 1st and 2nd pics to the coin in the 3rd pic, I believe that they are different coins. I could be wrong but while identical in Date, they just don't look the same.

Doesn't have the diagnostics od an 1888/7. There would be a cud next to UNITED if it was an 1888/7.

Thanks! If I was correct in my assessment, it was not due to a mixup mistake by the Seller! I checked the Auction on eBay and found this Seller did not sell any other 1888 Indian Head Cents in a reasonable time frame where a mixup mistake could have occurred nor has this Seller listed any 1888 "Dated" Indian Head Cents since. The previous 1888 "Dated" IHC that this Seller sold prior to the O.P.'s coin was on December 26, 2013 and it was in no where the condition as the O.P.'s purchased coin. While I suspect what happened, I can't be for sure as I was not the purchaser of the coin and do not have the coin in hand, so I will make no accusations against this Seller.

I still say that the coin in the pics from eBay appears to not be the same coin that is shown in pics #1 and #2 at the top of the Thread. Like I stated in the PM, I also cannot determine whether the coin in the pics from eBay is an 1888/7 Overdate Variety. I would have to study the diagnostics and characteristics of the Die used extensively as well as the coin in question to make a possible determination and I don't have the reference books to do so.

This is the actual coin I have in hand. Mind you that I carefully removed some build up to get a good look but this is the same coin that came out of the flip that I saw on eBay.

Again, I could be wrong but I still believe that they are not the same coins. Compare the denticles on the Obverse of both coins as the denticles never lie. Unless it is an optical illusion, the denticles on the coin in the latest pic are much larger than the coin that sold on eBay.

Because of the scope of this. I'm going to just go ahead and post the front and back eBay pictures. (2) The coin after I popped it out of the flip and took care of the gunk with a good coin oil then took (3) negative shots of the coin. From what I can see with my hairy eyeball from the dents in her neck, the eBay coin and the coin I have are one and the same.

I just have something to add to this. There is no such thing as a "good coin oil". Get some pure acetone and then conserve it with a product called verdicare.
