Stainless as not many welders will weld Galvi... fumes very toxic

Salt water makes stainless a must.

Fresh can go either way.

aluminum - lighter and in some cases stronger - ive broken welds on my stainless
never on my aluminum ones

I have had to have aluminum scoops re-welded due to breaks as well as add stainless steel lips to stop the aluminum lips from tearing from rocks..

I like the big aluminum RTG Monster with a stainless steel lip as Treasure Hunter says, to keep the nose from getting chewed up. :skullflag:

Thank you all for the great information,,,,its appreciated.

On salt water beaches......... galvanized will RUST..... especially once you start scratching it up. Ive not broken any SS, but i have aluminum....... either will work for the amount of times you beach hunt thou. Aluminum is less pricy.

If you get an aluminum one and plan on using it in saltwater, it will turn your hands black, unless it is anodized or powder coated.

Galvanizing is the process of dipping or coating mild steel with Zinc. It is designed to extend the life of the base metal. Once the zinc coating wears down, rust will become more apparent. Because of the highly corrosive qualities of salt water, it doesn't take long.
I have a 2 piece Beach Brute Sand Scoop that can be purchased from KellyCo. I have had it since the 80's.
The only thing that I have had to replace is the rubber foot pad. It was a good investment

Stainless or Alum only... never steel.
Would not give a 1 dollar for steel anything... other than galvi rims for a boat trailer... other that that nope.
I personally mainly use and prefer stainless in scoops... but have both... both are custom made.
The alum is an invention that I only use when testing which is rare anymore.

My girl uses an alum due to the weight... and the fact she is not as "hard" on em as I am.

My aluminiun scoop is very tough ,i would echo what Casper saidp

Not welded right.
It takes a serious welder to weld stainless correctly.

I don't use a pooper scooper at all if I'm on a sandy beach like we have down The shore here in New Jersey! Why carry things you don't need? I just use my foot or hand if it's deep! If it's a Stoney beach then you will need something much stronger than a scoop!
I use a steel shovel in those situations and it hasn't rusted yet! 20+ years now??? Maybe more. I have only replaced the wooden handle a half dozen time !

My scoop will rip through rock beaches like nothing... shells and packed dirt is childs play.
I can pry / pull back ... prying things that would destroy an alum... wood and steel.
I kick through 1 inch roots like butter.

I am ninja scoop master... heh :P

Well my digger can do anything yours will do but better!
Heh ;-/
Except it goes way beyond that. It also is a deadly weapon ! So don't sneak up on me ( I hate when I think I'm alone and I find fresh footprints go right past me . Headphones on!) you could become impaled. I only use it in rocky, Stoney gravel river beaches. Not sandy ocean beaches!

AARC when was the last time you dug up something? Just wandering.
;)
