Found a ring and it came up pull tab, nickel, ring and gold on my detector. Also found this stuff.
First pic won't upload!!!!

Looks as though it was made from a SS nut?

It has grind marks or file marks?

Want some opinions.

No other markings
My gut feeling is that it is made from a SS 5/8-11 nut drilled out.
Hoping I'm wrong though

Looks like a stainless signet ring that's been kicked around a bit.

Does stainless steel come up as nickel?

I think I'd do a gold test on it if there is no markings.

Is your stainless steel ring magnetic?

There are many types of stainless steel, some types have nickel added to the mix and most of the time this type of stainless steel is not magnetic, other types of stainless steel are magnetic, if your ring is not magnetic this may explain why the ring give a reading of nickel on your detector.

Stainless steel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"..when nickel is added, for instance, the austenite structure of iron is stabilized. This crystal structure makes such steels virtually non-magnetic and less brittle at low temperatures.."

It is not magnetic, 300 series SS is non magnetic but 400 series is slightly magnetic.
