Detector(s) used
Minelab GPX 4500, Minelab Equinox 800, 3 Minelab XS Explorers
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
My Dad had called me last Saturday night just to tell me he had found his first silver of the year, a 36 Merc. Well me not being one to be outdone the next day I just had to get out in the nice 75 degree Janurary weather and find some silver. I went to an older school that I have had some luck at and tried the baseball field again. Now I have found a few wheaties there before but wasnt expecting too much. I went real slow this time and listened hard for any deep signals. After 4 hours I had found 3 silver roosevelts, 2 war nickels, 18 wheaties and a few newer coins. But the best surprise was 2 gold rings, a small womens with the stone missing and a large mens with a light blue stone. Most of the finds were at 12" plus. Many of these signals were gone when I pulled the plug out of the ground but I kept digging and finding. Well needless to say, My Dad got a phone call that night. Now it is a week later and there is snow on the ground. Come on spring!

Out here in CA, the beaches are generally dead this time of year, but I always try and go out during lunch to see what I can find for a half hr or so. I was doing this the other day and got a really small signal while the surf was washing back and forth at my feet. Since I didn't have surf shoes or barefeet, I would dig hard and then scan the hole again. Every time the signal would get closer, a wave would come in and wash more water and sand back into my hole. But.... I was determined now to find my penny..... or so I thought! I finally managed to get the signal to one of the piles of sand around the hole and scooped it up before the next wave came in. I used the water from the wave to get rid of the sand and looked into my scoop. There was the most beautiful penny you ever saw (no, not really). Inside my scoop was an awesome 14 kt gold ring with a multi-faceted dark purple amethyst and two tiny real diamonds (tested them when I got home).
I'd say that was an excellent way to start out 2004! My wife loves this ring (just like the commercial!). I'll send pics when I get a chance. There's still nothing like seeing gold in the bottom of your scoop! Anyone else start out 2004 with a bang?

Well, my finds for this year total a handful of clad, but I have started off this year right in that I have gotten a Minelab Explorer II, which is a spaceship compared to my BH Landstar. Today was my second day using it and I am starting to learn how to use it; it's going to take awhile... At least now the junk I find is deep! ...better than shallow junk!

Chiz..you are just a stones throw up the road from me. I'd be happy to join you sometime.

MDnoob..You will love your Minelab. I usually hunt in Smart find...just turn on and go. My first time out with mine I found 1 Seated dime, 3 barber dimes, 5 large cents, and several indian heads in an old hunted out park in PA.

It happens sometimes with .php forums.... no biggie, took care of it!

Hey Marc... I used to live on Aquia Ave., right outside of Camp Barrett (TBS)... Went back to my favorite music store right there. WOW has that place built u pin 5 years.... Our first "adventure" will be to Coin Beach when it starts warming up a bit... I'll be sure to let you know! You mentioned PA in your post, do you go up there a lot? I normally do the PA / NJ thing every weekend....

Chiz...I have found some of my best and oldest stuff in PA. My inlaws live in the Altoona area so the detector is always the first thing packed. Probably get up there around 6 times a year. The best thing about PA detecting is that no one ever bothers you and never a problem getting permission to hunt unlike here in N.VA where it seems like everyone has jumped on the historical preservation bandwagon. Lets just let the stuff rot in the ground huh....keep me in mind when the thaw hits. Id be happy to join you at Coin Beach.

Here's my gold ring from the other day. 8)

Went to the beach again today for lunch. Found this 8" bracelet on my second signal. Nice pattern, but it's just silver plated copper. Too bad it's not a big chunk of gold! But.. It's still quite pretty. 8)

Well done lets hope 2008 is good for u
