So, i posted a while back about how i was discouraged that this 1830's farm i had been hitting in Middleburg VA wasnt yielding anything of note. Well...i never gave up and it paid off. Recently i put the 10x12 SEF on the e-trac and it was like switching from a Yugo to a Ferrari.
A few weeks back i nabbed 5 barber coins, 1892, 1899, and 1903 dimes and 1900 and 1915 quarters plus a few indian, wheats, buffalos, and 1900 V nickel. I thought that i had hit the field pretty hard and was really surprised that it was giving up this many coins considering where it was in relation to the layout of the farm. Anyway, i decided to pound it even harder since I am out of places to go and wow...I sure am glad i did.
I went out this past friday morning and literally within 2 minutes of being there grabbed a 1920 merc from 8 inches! wow...e-trac is running hot...got me going in the below 20 degree temps...so i really focused in and by the end of the day i nailed an 1825 Large cent, another barber - 1911 dime, and two flat buttons. One is a medium dandy thats silver plated and back marked "best quality"...wow what a day.
So sat morning get up early and convince the wife that i still have more to find and she grants me a pass. I head back out there thinking there is no way that i missed anything else...wrong...i had the same thing happen again....got there parked in the same spot....got out in within 2 minutes almost in the same spot as the merc i got a signal that was bouncing high to low...i said what the heck lets see...cut the plug stuck the x-1 in and i hear DIME DIME DIME...1901 barber...but...i stick the prob back in and i hear nickel...1885 V nickel...at the time i didnt know this was the key date V nickel but it gets better...so...i stick the prob back in because i obviously know that I hit a pocket spill...and i S*%$ you not I pull the other semi ket date V out...1912 S...which I also didnt know at the time....amazing!
I am on cloud nine again and I think I might as well go home now because it cant get any better but I have a hall pass and I might as well use it. So, i head back out into the field and after 2 more hours I somehow managed 2 more barber dimes another 1899 and a 1909, an 1894 Indian and 2 more buffalos. Holy crap...what a weekend. I am going to head back out there again this weekend because I only gridded half the field and there could be more...
wow.
PS, i apologize in advance for all the coins being in flips already but thats my favorite part...any day i have to break out the flips when i get home is a good day. Pics are from all the finds at this place including the weekend. Site was down until today so...
