I lived in central VA for 40 years. Was a rock hound & mountain hiker, not a prospector or metal detectorist at that time, but here's some random bits of info that may give you a lead on finding that private gold claim: (1) There used to be a gem & mineral club in nearby Waynesboro which may still be active & its members may know about the Staunton gold claim or possibly even be connected to the claim; (2) Also used to be a branch of the Virginia State Minerals Department on the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville -- if it's still active, should have info & leads to maps regarding VA gold locations in general and may know about the claim that you seek; (3) Not near Staunton, but there's apparently a "gold line" running north to south through central Virginia, like through Orange County and maybe Fluvanna or eastern Albemarle -- worth checking out sometime. HOPE YOU FIND THE CLAIM WITH MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES! Since I'm not in Virginia except for rare visits to family, you might as well GET THE GOLD, ha-ha. Andi
