Spent Tuesday morning at Fairy Stone Park for a quick little stone hunt.
Had a ball, bringing the grandkids back asap.

Are these the ones that sometimes form natural crosses?

Yes, 1 in 10,000 they tell me. I got one that I believe could be cleaned up and filed it to one.

There is a place in northern New Mexico that I hunted years ago. They are great stones. The place was beautiful! I bet it was nice to get out and find some nice specimens! Your grandkids should love it!!

Looks like a lot of fun

I haven't seen one of these or even thought about them for years. I worked at Skyline Caverns, as a guide, in high school. They sold them in the gift shop there.

Great post and good luck!

You are in my neighborhood. Do you live near Fairystone?

Couple hours east. near South Boston, VA.

Let me know when you get over this way. I have piles of rocks around the house for kids to pick through. I'll fix your grandkids up.

Middletown, ref: Battle of cedar creek, Ggrandfather served in the 33rd Va/ "Jackson's Foot Cavalry"

My daughter teaches high school in Mouth Of Wilson.

When I was born, my father was a ranger for Fairystone State Park. Born in Stuart hospital yes, but a very very dim memory of living in a Quonset hut then. And I ended up back here just a short few miles down the road from the park. Life is good and this is a very beautiful area.

Thanks man, I maybe calling on you in a couple of weeks.

Small world! I'm from Virginia and was just in Northern New Mexico this summer where my kids and I scraped up a handful of those stones. Beautiful canyon we were in!!

Im glad that Canyon in New Mexico isn’t under a claim by now. Lots of places I used to hunt in Colorado are! That is a beautiful place! I would like to visit that Fairystone State Park, it sounds incredible!
