✅ SOLVED STERLING silver whatsit

Found this at a demolished house site. Any guesses? It's about an inch and a half long. The flap on the back stamped STERLING doesn't look like it was ever meant to pass a chain through.

Argentium (on the "Today's Finds" forum) said it might be a liquor decanter decoration.

Could it be a dress clip with part of the clip missing? I looked through an old jewelry book and found lots of these.....
