Well, I still haven't had any luck finding a local to hunt with. The good news is the weather today was finally nice and I am still finding good coins. I went back to the area that has already produced silver and an IH. It didn't disappoint. I found a 1917 merc, a 1890 IH, half a dozen wheaties, a Washington Masonic Memorial token dated May 12, 1932, a Red Goose shoes token, and a Kennedy half.

I use google maps/earth. Research areas online ahead of time. I use the forums to try to find locals to hunt with (with varying success). Try to find Sanborn or other old maps when I can find them online. I also talk to anyone I can who might have local info or site to hunt. If I see someone detecting I stop and visit. I have met some great people and have had some good hunts this way, even with a couple forum members here. Our travels are mapped out for most of the year, and I am researching moths out.
I hope you make it out on the road, if that is what you want. I know the wife and I really enjoy the lifestyle.

Far away from me.

Looks like you made some nice finds. I like that Masonic Memorial token.

Thanks Jimmy, definitely having a good time. Can't compare to the great find you started the year with. Hope your hot streak continues all year!

Do you travel all year long or do you have a home base?

We actually sold the house and bought a motorhome. We spend about half our time volunteering and a half traveling. We have volunteered at state parks, fish hatcheries, wild life refuges etc.. We have done light house tours in Oregon, helped with nature educational programs for 4th graders at a wildlife refuge in Texas, we also volunteered at the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque last year. We have a blast and meet great people. Metal detecting is a perfect hobby for this lifestyle.
