Dad & I had 3 strong leads we had to try out.
1st area - a double enclosure of unknown date - When we arrived on the co-ords the signs were great. Dark soil, pottery & lead, plus a few nails. At the time I was convinced it was a Roman Site but after 2.5 hours gridding we only had 1 Roman Coin. I thought it had been cleared out by previous detecting. Although this still may have happened, I did some more research on the pot shards & found that most were Medieval & only the odd bit of Roman. So not the period of site we are after as our objective this year (unless full of coins etc..)
2nd area - Some cropmarks from a mid-1970s aerial shot - Turned out to be a blank but Dad lucked in with a hammered farthing & Crotal Bell. (45 minutes)
3rd area - Possible Iron Age/Roman Settlement - It was deep ploughed & impossible to walk on but looks like a promising field, so a return visit is needed.
Fallback Plan - Spent the remainder of the 6 hour hunt on a nearby known Roman Site.

18 Scrappies
Crotal Bell (Rings)
14th C Buckle
Silver plated Brooch (Cat face)
Hammered Farthing
Hammered Lizzy 3 Pence
Bits....

Liking the cat and the buckle, hammered 3 pence no see.:)

Had to look again I thought I saw a Toonie when I first looked. :laughing7:

Nice little silver, but I'm still putting the kitty on top.

CRUSADER IF YOU DONT MIND ME ASKING , DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY ITEMS YOU HAVE , BECAUSE I THINK I ASKED ONCE BEFORE AND YOU MUST HAVE ONE HELUVA SHOW CASE TO PUT THEM ALL IN. YOU GOT SOME NEAT FINDS , LIKE THE OLE CROTAL AND THE KITTYCAT.

Wow! Awesome hunt crusader!

Looks like you've got a promising location or two there - the cat looks Victorian in style to me (I guess it could be Edwardian as well)
Good stuff !

Great finds as usual

The cat is a banner :P

The crotal bell and the hammered your Dad found pretty much made the day!
The "Possible Iron Age/Roman Settlement - It was deep ploughed & impossible to walk on but looks like a promising field", sound very interesting Cru!

It don't happen often that a modern find is my favorite. This cat is cool! Nice buckle and farthing tho!

Never counted but in the 10s of thousands. We are over 8000 Roman Bronze coins alone.

I thought the same, it looks like it had tiny glass eyes at one point.

Yes, but many of these Archaeological leads are blanks, specially if Bronze Age instead of their later guess.

Meow! Those are some nice finds. I have read about you digging Lizzie's so many times I can actually recognize them myself now. Someday I'll make it across the pond and dig one myself. Someday....

Congrats on a great day. Glad to hear you found a promising site as well.

Yes, as Lizzy Halfgroat is most likely the first hammered your going to get, if not it will be an Edward I.

I'm still drooling…congrats on another successful hunt!

Thanks we thought it went well enough. Its not easy finding a new site but hopefully we will snag one.
