And they are called clad because they are in the case of dimes and quarters nickle "clad" copper. They are 1965 and newer.
Clad pennys are copper "clad" zinc and started mintage in 1982. Nickles are not cladded but most Treasure hunters include them in the clad category(well I do at least ;D ).

1983 was first year of the zinc plated copper cent which is what we have now, before 1983 it was 95% copper, clad dimes quarters and half dollars started in 1965 , before that they were 90% silver, Here is a good site that may help you http://www.coinfacts.com/ goodluck and happy hunting ;)

Toy, you also might want to go out and buy the 2007 Red Book on U.S. Coins. It cost about 10 bucks or so and gives you all the info on currant prices and how to grade what you find. HH and heck out that lunch money you've beengiving away all this time.
