So I went back to the new permission, for the 2nd time, trying to find the plantation house and slave's quarters I had heard about. No luck, yet.
BUT, once again I found myself knee deep in finds- too many to picture, but here are a few. I'm still trying to 'date' this (secondary site?) house, with the things I've dug so far. Feel free to chime in, if you can help!
I'm waiting for that first coin, so I can have a better idea on the date, but from the stamped square nails and the lantern parts, along with the horse shoes/tack and clay pottery, I figure it was in the mid to late 1800s.
I think I know what a few items are: the hooped Scythe Handle Rod, the elaborate Door Hinge, the fancy Door Knob(?), the broken Iron Pot handle, and maybe a Steamer Trunk Corner Bolster?
I am interested in any IDs you folks can give of the odd pieces- like the hook on the bolt? The odd sized chain links in the photo with [maybe] a trowel? Etc.
I'm probably not going to be able to hunt this spot for a while, so I'll have to be content with what I've found thus far.
DID find another shotgun shell size- a .410 gauge! I'm working toward a clean sweep of all the major gauges!
Keep on being safe and dig for the history!
