Yeah I’ve got tons of cores and never seen anything like this.

Sorry, it is natural rock that has been broken, I see no signs it was worked by man.

Cool find, congrats!!

Ask a flintknapper. They're used to understanding removals based on striking platforms.

Busted Rock. Flaking is wrong for intentional workmanship. It’s a cobble that broke and the break looks fresh, not ancient. I have dozens of these.....

Well, I don't know fellas. That's a chert nodule, you can see the rind. I'm thinking someone started working on it, saw what the material looked like, and rejected it. Four distinct blows.

This is everything else I found today. All within 10’x10’ area. Points have been elusive recently

This is a strange material that I’ve never seen here in SWMO. Looks like a concretion honestly. It’s without a doubt been flaked by man though. When that was I don’t know but this was surface find too. Found it circling old oak tree along with all that. Debitage city right there. But then again, maybe I’m just crazy!

It's a broken chert nodules. I've found lots of them.
I even have a big egg shaped one that's broken and the inside looks like a dinosaur, but that's just an illusion. And I found it in SW Missouri

That definitely is a nodule that was used as a core.

And what force broke it in that exact shape? And just happened to be dead center in campsite. We can agree to disagree

Maybe a NA youth tried using it as a hammerstone, but it broke, and was discarded...???

I’m past it being natural. I’m just curious because it’s odd and out of place at this site. I think the material of the rock might not petina like what you are used to seeing.

This is one of those pieces that you can look at for hours and speculate whether it is something or not. It could be something but likely is natural. It’s not a core as those have more utilization. It’s also not bipolar core reduction-a common technique to remove quality chert flakes. It’s not anything that had a lot of use-again if anything at all.
