It's a broken chert nodules. I've found lots of them.
I even have a big egg shaped one that's broken and the inside looks like a dinosaur, but that's just an illusion. And I found it in SW Missouri

Yeah I get that but what you have a picture of doesn’t really match what I have here. These flakes were taken from percussion. The bulbing is clearly visible at the right angle. Holding it in you hand helps also.
the only ones that stand out as likely natural to me are the two pictures from the op on the second page (second one not sure, not clear in picture) . excluding that lager group photo on the first page most have had a hit or two, except the large reddish one with pits\craters.. seems natural from the knappables in my area i see eroding in weather, and what it can make with a lot of time.
You crack me up, but I like your enthusiasm.
All I can say is that you should take it up to the Museum of Native American History on a Wednesday or Friday and see what Mike has to say. He definitely knows way more about that stuff than I do, but I'm trying to learn.
Metal detecting is my game, but occasionally I get lucky and find a cool rock. But for me personally, if it's even questionable I throw it back , because I don't need the extra weight slowing me down.
i'm with you. i've done the same. (when knapping found, already worked rock, be aware of what you are altering, personally found things in the nothing pile that are named artifacts or tools i was previously unaware of) at this point the rocks outweigh me. it's quite the trail of bread crumb adventures when i pick up each one and remember what it took to find it.I have a tendency to grab all material that I can. It’s all been worked and yes most are use once and toss. I’ve been napping myself and like to use the actual material they used and refurbish it. Just a little side hustle when the wife won’t let me out.
