I have one of those belt soldiers also. I thought it would be cool to make a sculpture bug out of mine. I also found a large brass buckle simular to yours. Maybe your buckle and spliced went together. Nice to get out in sure. Happy Hunting.

That's right, It's a belt splicer. That is an older type called an alligator splicer. The newer ones were called lacers.

Thanks everyone, I can't say that I've found an exact match online but its close enough for me.
I went back out there today and found another one just like it but maybe 1/3 it's size.
