I was hitting some back roads near me looking for detecting locations this weekend. I was on a sharp curve and noticed some rocks stacked up just off the road. I decided to check the area with my detector. I got an overload signal on AT max, and dug it up. I found a small mayo jar with pennies nickles and dimes in it, all of which were from the year 2000 and up. I started to wonder if it was not some sort of offering or Santería thing. Perhaps a loved one had died here and this was the marker/memorial. I put the jar back and covered it up. I figure after research I can always go back and get it.
Any of you folks ever encounter this? Any ideas? Thanks

With the newness of the coins, you ABSOLUTELY did the right thing putting it back. Thank you for that, could be a child's stash or as you said "Offering". Maybe check the spot again next year?

ask the land owner , maybe they know about the coins ?

You did the right thing.
Geocaches will usually have a note included.
If it was an old pile of rock, then it could be someone's stash.
They used the pile for a landmark.
If it's a new pile, then most likely a memorial and that was an offering.
Leave it there, don't screw with karma for a mayo jar full of clad.

If you live in the area, you could ask some of the local cops if there was a car crash there.
Seeings your site is on a sharp curve, my guess would be a crash.
