Found this yesterday 6 inches down, at my late great-great aunts house. Originally, I thought it was a pin or a broach, but there doesn't seem to be anything on the reverse where the pin would go. Soo....I ask all my MD'ing T-NET buddies far and wide....WHAT IS IT?? I put a quarter next to it to show you the size. Any help is appreciated. THANKS!! and Happy Hunting as always!

I know what it is.

It is a large piece of metal..

;D

Cool find! I am sure someone will know.

Try posting it in the "watizit" forum.

weird.

any broken off feet? Looks to me like something to set a hot pot on. but it may be to small for that.

It really does look like a ladies antique pin. Neat find anyway. Keep that ACE 250 smokin!!

I looked on the back and front, and didn't see any strange holes, any any place where the pin would go. Hmmm....??? Hopefully somebody on here knows something about it, or has seen one before.

Keep in mind though guys that its only about as think as a penny (actually, a little bit thinner), and is only about 2 1/4 inches in diameter. I think it might be too small and too thin for a hot plate?

I dug one of those also. It is 1 pc. of 3 that was a necklace. If you want a picture of the rest of it, let me know. Bongo

Actually, yours is more intricate than mine. Bongo

Bongo's ID looks good. If that doesn't pan out, it may be a decorative piece on furniture. Look close to see if there is any oxidation on the piece where a small nail would have been placed.

Lafitte - I think I'm leaning toward your answer. It doesn't look like any of the jewelry items pictired above, and you are right....there is a slight mark where there MAY have been a small nail. Thanks for the info...

I circled where it looks like stones may have been glued in ... I found a broach a few weeks ago digging for bottles..

May be too small, but could it be an old style coaster? A person would place a glass on it rather than directly on a wooden table - to avoid water rings on the table. I have one that's a fancy filigree silver-over-glass. Mine is about 2.5" in diameter. Perhaps your item is older and therefore did not have the glass insert?

Here's my coaster

I agree, Looks like part of a necklace.

I don't think its a coaster - too small, and very thin. I'll send a pic of the back tonight, however, the back pretty much looks very similar to the fornt, except with less detail. Thanks again for all your comments, ideas, and suggestions....keep 'em coming!
