It's a split planchet error. Worth much more if you have the side with the date. siegfried schlagrule

I believe it is just post mint damage. Could have been subjected to some kind of acid or buried. Might just have been beat up some way.

i have one with both sides looking like that ....at first i thought it was a blank but the edges are the same as a penny

Sorry, but it appears to simply be post-mint damage, likely from a slot machine.

I don't see any split planchet, both sides appear to be there.

The copper seams to be dug out around the edge.

Found a dime just like it the other day. I am going to hold on to it but I dont think its worth anything. I stil ldont understand how the deep ridge formed. Mine looks like it could have been underground for a couple years
