Relic Hunting
I was out on Sunday for a short dig on a saltwater feeder creek in what I think is a trash dump from the early 1800's based on the pottery and black glass bottle pcs and a war of 1812 1st regiment artillery button I had found over the last few months. I had gone over this area numerous times and I had pulled all of the metal from the ground or so I thought. No iron noise or anything on the AT Pro so just decided to dig an area with a lot of pottery shards. About 18 inches down in the hole and dumped a few shovels of dirt and this fell out. It really corroded and I'll never get a date off of it but goes to show that you can find things if you get out there and hunt. I was able to get the words "one cent " off the back and the bust is facing left. From grade of copper and from some reading it's likely an 1807 to 1814. No matter. Just a cool story. Thanks

Moderators...how about a toasted coin of the year award?

All kidding aside, nice hunts there. It's back breaking work but the rewards are there.

Good work, keep digging, look for crusty round grey objects! :-)

Looks is a disaster

That's a 100% better than the one I haven't found yet! Well done. [emoji106]🏻

Sweet! Congrats on your LC!
At lest it is identifiable....my one & only LC is also toasted and dateless.

Here's a toast to all dateless LC's  :)

Nice job finding the goods. However with stars over liberties head you're looking at a matron head. Now if you can see a line (or no line) under "cent", that can narrow the daw some more. What those dates are I dunno - I don't have my book out.

Crusty or not, large cents are always great to find!

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like the head styling that happened in the 1830s. But can't tell for sure. Try looking at those heads and see if something comes close. Congrats
