Have you tried changing the shaft to a straight one? Seems like the easiest way to go for you and the health of the machine.

Use a straight shaft and/or start wearing a harness that attaches to your detector shaft. Mounting the controls on a waist belt/shoulder harness causes shorts in the coil and headphone cables from the constant flexing which will end up requiring you to buy new coil and headphones......

I have been using a harness for 8 years, I can hunt all day by using the harness, I attach a bungee cord from the shaft to my camelpac, I always have cold water with me and the bungee takes the weight off my arm. An added benifit is I can let co of my detector and it hangs by my side controls up by mky shoulder which frees up my arm if I need 2 hands for my scooop...

One of the less expensive ways is to use a Detecting Buddy. I use one with my E-trac and it works great. You should be able to find one on E-bay or maybe our vendors here on Tnet carry them. I think I paid $20 or so for mine, but, that was a couple of years ago.
