STREET TEAR OUT - THIRD TIME'S A CHARM!!!

Went back again today to see what else the street tear would yield and even though I didn't find as much I found what I consider my best find to date! An EXTREMELY clean 1865 indian head penny!!! My first and what a first at that! I felt like acting a fool like KG and Ringy on Diggers when it popped out of the hole, I felt like climbing trees and doing cartwheels. But, I instead I highfived my daughters a we kept on searching! Great day today! Lastly, can anyone tell me how to clean just the dust and dirt off without ruining the patina? I really would like to preserve this one as best as I can.

Now, i have learned something useful today! :). You rock

Wow that is sharp for a indian head, looks liek some nice detail is still in the feathers. I would baby it and if you clean it get a professional job done.

Great find! Thanks for sharing...

Man, mine never seem to come up looking like that!
And rarely ever that old.
Always a toasty, toasty 1907!
Kudos!
Carl

Very old & very beautiful - Congrats! :occasion16::wav::occasion16: Have fun! Andi

Great find, nice Indian.
There is a cleaning and preserving forum on our site. You can get good ideas from there. Looks like a few days soaking in mineral oil and then a toothpick to knock off any stubborn dirt

Fantastic condition. Way to go!

Nice IHP there!

clean gently with a toothpick, soak in olive oil overnight, and rub between thumb and index finger, it will turn out gorgeous

Great IH! I use a toothpick ONLY on mine, not even water. I've had great results.
