Hey folks, As i said before been off the forum so long ,and have built my collection and have items that i have never completely ID. I have seen many strikers on the web,and some dug.But i have had a time locating some like listed. One still has the original sparking material inside. My question, is can someone attribute a time period and origin.
Thanks,
JARMAN

Thanks, JG and Monty. Only ones i've seen, are made with metal strike only. Did not know if pouch type are 18th or 19th cen. Metal only type is still made today. Thanks again.

How was the striker used?
what action was made to create the spark?
Whats the material on the striker blade?

Monty,thats funny,I don't care who you are.

BB, You would have a fine conbustable material to start with, and use the iron blade to strike flint over material to get a fire started. The pouch type is kind of like an all in one kit. Wont build up your arms like Monty's.HH

Only thing I have come across looking like that (striker on a pouch) was in the Book of Buckskinning, which focuses on the 1810 to 1830 era. +/-

Who's to say what may have been in use in other contries after that and might have come across the Atlantic?
