Went digging with a couple of friends in Golden Gate Park, but had very little luck. Fortunately, after lunch we decided to hit another park and within the first half-hour this giant 14k gold ring popped out of the ground.

It weights 12 grams, and has a 22mm inside diameter (that's about a size 12.5 if you're counting at home). This is by far the biggest ring I've found and I'm pretty stoked about it. I might be spending a bit more time in parks instead of chasing oldies.

Nice find. Do you need permits to go to those parks? Also, any tips for areas in the Bay Area to detect? (within an hour or 2 drive) Thanks!

Excellent find!

Congratulations!!

Sweet Huge Ring, Looks like you found a spot to spend a lot of time at.

Very nice ring! Congrats!

12 grams......no wonder the dude lost that thing. Great find for you though! :)

Yeah!! It needed a safety chain like the wallet I use while riding my Suzuki !

Great looking ring.

Hand soap: I think the only place in the SF Bay that you do need permits is in Santa Clara County parks and in San Jose city parks. We, of course, all have our secret spots that can't really be shared on a public forum (otherwise they wouldn't be secret). Just do your research and you'll find some good places to hunt.

If you're in the San Jose and are a member of the SJ library system, you can get access to digital Sanborn maps on the library's website. They'll help you figure out what, if anything, used to be in the open spaces in the region. I have spent countless hours researching spots to hunt and consider it to be almost as enjoyable as going out and hunting them. I wouldn't want to rob you of that aspect of the hobby!

What detector were you using?

I was using my Whites VX3 and oddly it rang in similar to a bottle cap/zinc penny (VDI 50).

Congratulations! that is one nice looking ring. HH!
