STUMPED! Foreign coin with counter stamp

This one has me stumped. I bought a large foreign coin lot off ebay. Mostly mixed "stuff" valued at about what I paid for it. A few unusal ones came out of the lot, this one below being the strangest to me. Looks to be a Peruvian 9 decimos and has a date of 1869. Now here's the weird part. In the center it appears to be counterstamped with another coin! That one reads Republic of Guatamala 1/2 real. On one side it reads Libertad 30 Juno 1871, on the other side it reads Libertad 30 sept 1821. So maybe a 50th anniversary coin in the center?? Strange! Jake

The one at that site is from Peru but,,, there is no counter stamp on it,,,

Not an answer to your question, but a thought. ?Some countries mistrusted others coinage, and once a sample of the assay for a given coin was accepted they counterstamped the coins that had entered into their country in trade. ?It was all about the silver content and not the denomination ?~ made for a real mess at times and is one reason we got off the silver (or gold) standard. ?I don't know this is the case here, and that would be a pretty fancy stamp. ?Our 1870's trade dollars show up with Chinese chop marks.
