Went out Sunday and found only 1 point, but it was worth it. Found a pretty nice early archaic knife. 2-1/2", serrated and beveled. No damage to the point though one of the ears is slightly shorter than the other. Probably the nicest point I've found so far this year. Found ~20 or so brokes as well but nothing good. Ate too many footprints to have a better day!

Joe

Bad to the bone!!! Great point!!!

Congrats nice point there Joe!

Beautiful Point! It would definitely make my Day.

That's a screamer :D :icon_thumright:

very nice point, congratz, would like to see more pics of it
if you get time. good luck JYD...

Twitch that is one of the prettiest points I have seen. Congrats on the find!!! :icon_thumright:

Great insitu pic, very nice point, if you were in florida that would be one fine beveled bolen!

Nice point, is that a deer print in front of the piece? A couple inches back and the deer could have pushed it back into the mud.

Looks like a Stilwell, that has been resharpened....nice find for an early archaic piece.

Thanks everyone.

JYD - I'll try to get some more pictures tonight. It was a really nice bevel to it that didn't come through in the picture.

Joshua - Yes it's a deer print right in front of it. I was think that might be why it was sticking out of the dirt like that, the deer print pushed the tip down and the base up.

Rege-PA - I also think it's a Stillwell though most people would say it's a Pinetree. I couldn't tell you what the difference is between the two anyways. I've found a lot of early Archaic pieces at this site. I'll try to get a picture of some of the other early piece from that spot.

my goodness Twitch!! that looks like a Tennessee pine tree why dont you just mail it to me sense it is a point from my state? would you tell what size you are posting your photos at, i have to go down to 50% to get them on one screen. is it my PC or the size you are posting thank you.. my state one of 14 state with a pine tree. Terry

Great looking Point and in situ picture. I was thinking more along the lines of a Pine Tree too, but it could be a resharpened Stilwell.

UPDATE - NEW PICTURES Sunday Find - Only 1 Point

Attached are two more photo's of the point. I agree it's a Pinetree most likely. First shows the bevel and the 2nd is just another picture of it. The 3rd picture is a couple of the other points I have found in the same area. It's a multi-component site, so I only included other Early Archaic points, Kirk, Pinetree, Lost Lake. I did not include Dove's, Big Sandy's or Daltons mostly because I'm lazy and I didn't feel like taking all the cases off the walls.

Thanks for the look.

Twitch...just a few observations, Pine trees are usually flaked to a medial ridge, Stilwells are generally flatter, your point being beveled leads one in the Lost Lake direction as the others are not beveled. Interesting point and worthy of study.

Re: UPDATE - NEW PICTURES Sunday Find - Only 1 Point

Nice. Very Nice. And a great photo of the bevel.

Rich.
