Sunken Treasure Book Club to meet at FUN show - Jan. 7th - 1pm

Held in conjunction with the Florida United Numismatic (FUN) show at the Tampa Convention Center, the Sunken Treasure Book Club will meet on Friday, January 7th, from 1 to 4pm in Rooms 8 & 9.

The purpose of the club is to share information about books and auction catalogs on the topics of shipwreck coins, artifacts, and treasure salvage. Typically, 40 to 50 people attend meetings, including quite a few authors. The club is a great way to network and locate hard-to-find titles, and to find information about a particular topic, shipwreck or coin.

There are no membership dues or meeting fees!

Following the Book Club meeting, a memorial service will be held for Lou Ullian from 4 to 5pm in Rooms 8 & 9 of the Tampa Convention Center (same place as the Book Club meeting). Lou was one of the Real Eight Corp. members who salvaged the 1715 Fleet in the 1960s and 70s.

Wanted to bump this up -

don't make all the FUN shows (admit I hate to drive) but planning on this one
This time of year we all need some treasure to look at - some more treasure books to read
hope to meet some of you at the Sunken Treasure Book Club meeting (wish I could bring the bird but it's in its cage at the bank-

Great meal, the same interesting cast of characters
plus a few new faces and some new interesting book releases
like yours.

On an interesting note, we traded a copy of each of our books
with author Michael C. Barnett titled, "Encyclopedia of Florida Shipwrecks"
anyone interested in the Jupiter Shipwreck should take a look at
page 214 about the San Miguel Archangel! This alone made it worth the trip for
me. Its both fun and informative to read of others accounts
of an adventure of discovery we are living within.

Possibly did Mr. Barnett get some of these new perspectives
and his facts, as a result of your research?
I have sent him an email requesting his sources.

It was great! Dave Crooks and Ernie Richards did a great job for us all, and there were some great stories told, and some great books made their debut.

Bonnie and Jo were there and Bonnie gave us the lowdown on the gold pelican.

Mike Brown was there to tell about finding some escudos while digging with Greg Bounds. He also got some good pictures... hope he posts some of them.

Book presentations were done by Augi Garcia, Mike Barnette, Yvonne Addario, Bob Baer, and myself, plus there were plans laid for the 300th anniversary of the 1715 plate fleet memorial.

I really wanted to go to this, but very good friends/couple was getting married yesterday, and we were doing the flowers and all set up. Way too busy. I really wanted to pick up some books, and meet some folks, but that will have to wait. Sounds like a good time was had.

My apologies, I have been in the weeds all weekend and just now have some free time. I was going to respond to your email, but since you posted here in public....
Regarding the information used for the SAN MIGUEL DE ARCHANGEL entry in my book, I pulled from information supplied by Steve Singer, as well as an article published by J.A. Ruth of Amelia Research and Recovery Company (oversight; should have been cited). In regard to the date, I vaguely remember some other information that I may have to look for on my other computer; sorry for the delay. I don't think I would have published a date unless I had explicit information and felt in credible; it should have also been cited in the endnotes if not attributed in the entry, but I acknowledge I am not infallible.
Please keep in mind that this is but one of approximately 1,300 wreck entries in my book. Also note the discussion of information accuracy and research issues in the preface.

Dom, I would have kept this between you and Mike as a professional courtesy. Not all mistakes need to be touted on a public forum. I'm sure you would appreciate the same if/when someone finds a mistake in your book.

I would have loved to have been there to hear Mike and Bonnie share.

Dinner and the meeting was a great time and it was a memorable event! I ended up taking over a hundred photos between dinner, on the show floor, and at the STLC meeting. Since you mentioned it, I'll post some! I resized these down from the originals, but if anyone would like copies of the originals, let me know.
