I took these on a long bike ride today. I stopped by the Heron's rookery to see if I could see any hatchlings, but didn't see any little heads poking up out of any of the nests in the willow tree next to creek yet. I road further out to a lake and sat and watched this male Western Grebe dive in and out of the lake. They sure can hold their breath under water for some time. Sometimes it was like 5 plus minutes before it would resurface and shortly dive down again. Notice how far back the legs are on this bird? I read they hardly ever walk on land, as the prefer being either in the air or on the water. The squirrel was just the first thing I saw on the way as he was trying to go unnoticed up in the tree... Boy I got me some sun today and that sure feels good. Now it's time to walk the dogs on what should be a beautiful Friday evening.
