sunspot stelth

I recieved the new Pro/Scoop in the mail today. Having only been in Florida for about a month now I am not very familiar with all the many beach access points along A1A. I looked at three or four beaches from their walkover. I thought I saw a trough forming on one of them so grabbed my gear and headed down the beach. The trough ended up being a rock formation and all I could work was the beach side which was on avarage up to my knees. All I could pull out of there was the light stuff. I did have a chance to use the scoop in the water, but could see that nothing was happening so went up a little higher and tried the wet sand, which held a lot of shells and more light stuff. Then I wandered up toward the 'damp' sand and would overlap up into the dryer stuff.
As far as my first reaction to the scoop... It is a lot to pack around, but I can get used to it. If I carried the scoop by the handle with the bucket behind me I couldn't make a full swing to the left or the Sand Shark would catch a reflection from it. I ended up finding that I had to pack it over my shoulder, which is not too bad. It is a great way to carry it when walking to or from the beach, but it would be nice to have it 'hanging' beside me ready to use. However, it wasn't too difficult to bring it down from the shoulder each time as the targets weren't coming very close together and it hangs on the shoulder very well, if you don't mind having sand and seawater draining down your back. Overall I really like the scoop. It is a little ungainly and awkward, but it is all a matter of getting used to using it. I weighed it after installing the handle and it weighs 6 lbs 4 oz. It did purge the sand out pretty quickly and the sand was mixed with many pieces of shell.
The angle is 90 degrees to the handle, so the angle makes you have to start your hole a little on the early side and requires taking more material with each scoop. I hate it when I drive my bucket into a good target, so always give myself plenty of room in that aspect. On another thread Steve talks about using a 30 degree angle handle on this scoop. It is worth the read and can be found in the beach and shallow water forum titled: "Small items that go through scoop".
This is one of those days that heading toward the loose sand produced gold. It was a lucky hit with the pi as I like to hunt the upper area with a vlf so I don't have to dig so many nails. I hit this ring in moderatly damp, semi packed sand at about 8 inches. It couldn't have been on the beach for too long judging on where I found it and the depth. I will make a post with more photos on this forum.

You will like the Sunspot. Sandman gave me one of his Sunspots and I will always be grateful. The scoop is a little heavy, but I drag it behind me when I wade so it won't bother the detector.
