Went to a farm field for the first time on 10/28/08. My MXT with the 9.50 was finding a lot of iron and shotgun shell casings. Suddenly I got a VDI of a quarter. I dug and used my pinpointer to find the coin. There enclosed in a clump of earth was a nice green patina large coin. Thinking it might be a large cent I gave it a closer inspection. To my surprise I see it is a large cent but it looked different. Upon further inspection I discovered that I had an 1882 Canadian large cent. That sure made my day. The coin is in better shape than the photo's indicate.I will be back hunting that plot of land again.

I forgot to mention the coin was found in Indiana which was a big surprise.

Wow! I wonder if Canadians passed through Indiana on their way to Florida to surf in the winter back then? :tongue3:

Sweet find!!!

That must have been during the Canadian occupation of 1882.... It only lasted for a couple of hours.
Actually they only came over for a visit but it was touch and go for a moment.... :tongue3:

Congratulations! Nice coin!!

I had one over here in the UK, from a park. 1889 I think. Mind to was in pretty good shape
