60 and sunny yesterday so I took a little hike to detect an area where I saw some evidence of mining. I came across a spot that was littered with nails so I cranked up the recovery speed and slowed way down.
Finds were several little clothing hardware pieces, a bottle opener, cufflink, .32 WCF cartridge case, Mentholatum lid, top of a Beiersdorf's toothpaste tube, a whatzit and a 1948-D dime.

The toothpaste tube top is lead and has a very fancy cap, thought it was kinda cool.

With some of the 19th century pat. dates on some of the clothing pieces I was hoping for and older coin or two.

The cufflink was a nice surprise.

The whatzit is made of lead and says "Sozodont-NY". Any ideas on it?

It always amazes me to find things under this rocky/gravely desert surface.

The dime was close to this cute little barrel cactus, so I thought I'd include it.

Congrats on the silver.
Nothing like having a lead topped toothpaste tube.
It's a really cool piece of history.
Great photos for us snow bound wishers.

Sozodont was a liquid dental hygiene product dispensed from a glass bottle with a metal spout and sprinkler closure.

The ‘Cling Socket’ looks like it might be part of a reversible screwdriver patented by Goodell & Lanfair in 1897):

The ‘Velvet Grip’ is Pettibone’s garment supporter, originally patented in 1892 and then with an improved patent in 1895.

Thank you much for the IDs Red-coat, very much appreciate it!

Thanks Peps!
Funny how there used to be all these things to poison people with lead. Now we've moved on to micro-plastics and chemicals.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. :icon_scratch:

Nice finds. I really like that cufflink. I am guessing it is very early 1900s, as I have read that is when those dumb bell pattern or bean back style links were popular. Congrats!

Nice group of interesting finds. :icon_thumleft: Great assortment of clips. Congrats on the silver and that cool cufflink, but my fav is that lead toothpaste top. That is so neat.
Thanks for the post. I can almost feel that 60 degrees. :tongue3:
