Hi all. I got out to the site were I found the snake and stars button and the 1795 and 96 LC's the other day for a couple of hours.I found this cool copper thing and posted it in the "what is it" section.Johnnyi nailded it on the first shot....wadda guy ! Thanks again Johnnyi ! Turns out to be a sword hilt.Now I have a question.How would I be able to date it ? I've been looking on the net but havent found anything helpfull.

Great looking piece of history there.. sure it dates to the late 1700's ...WTG

That's a very cool find. I found this one last week which is missing the piece that you found. Difficult to date with any real accuracy. They were common from the late 1600s to the late 1700s. Are you near a French area by chance?

Nice one romeo. Thanks for the info! I think I'll be going back tomorrow to see if I can find the rest.I'm hunting along a river in upstate NY.There were French settlers that came to this area in the late 1700's and two Frenchmen built a mill around that time not to far from the site that I found this.

No problamo......I kinda pride myself on my ability to make people laugh.......some would go so far as to call me a funny.....smart.......azz. :D
