Found this today just laying on the surface of a dirt pile thanks to our local utilities company. :laughing7: It certainly resembles a pommel from a dagger or sword and I believe that the bright material may be gilded since there was no petina like you would have with brass or copper. The photos you see below are after rinsing with some warm water and mild soap using my fingers only. As you'll notice, there appears to be an iron stem that rises from the top of the item as if it were inserted into a hilt. Any opinions are appreciated.

It LOOKS like a pommel, but you can see it was folded from sheet brass... not 16th/17th or early 18th century technology. :icon_scratch:

I should point out that this particular area does yield colonial (1760-onward) finds in addition to modern junk. I can't help but think it's a pommel of some kind (sword, dagger, flintlock pistol, etc) but I have to admit that it could be just about anything decorative in nature. :D

I don't think it's modern junque... might be a lamp part tho. 19th or 20th c. technology, stamping the brass, and folding it like that.

I thought something along those lines as well, but the brilliance of the metal made me think that it was of greater significance than that.
